To mark the occasion of International Women’s day, at a ceremony held at a Chennai hotel, DGP (Vigilance) TANGEDCO, MrsSriLakshmi Prasad IPS and ace advocate and women’s right activist MsNeharikaDharmaraj, gave away the 6th annual Eastern Bhoomika awards to 8 women from different walks of life in Chennai.
Eastern Condiments, the country’slargest exporter of spices and condiments manufacturer, makers of the well-known Eastern brand of products have been giving away these awards for the past 5 years, as a part their overall mission of turning the limelight on, on woman who have made a mark in their passion and vocation, away from all the noise and glitter.
Speaking on the genesis of Bhoomika Eastern awards, MsSivapriya, Head – New product development at Eastern said – “The Eastern Bhoomika awards are not just another award given to woman who have been famous, but to those seemingly ordinary woman, who have willfully chosen a path less trodden, and continue to make an indelible mark, unfazed by the adversities and accolades which they don’t get. Every edition of Eastern Bhoomika award in the last 5 years has identified and honored such women across the country”.
Giving away the Chennai edition of the award, the chief guest MrsSrilakshmi Prasad, IPS, said – “From a tradition driven past, women from all walks of life have now come out of their shell, and have begun chasing what they feel is their passion and purpose. When this has a social connotation, those woman who have chosen to impact the society begin to make an indelible positive change.
Awards like these, serve as a catalyst for yeoman causes which many women have now started pursuing, and the handful of awardees are just a small sample of the social change happening around us. It gives me immense honor to be part of such an endeavor, she added.
