Across Chennai city, the City Corporation is set to go on a hunt for vacant land areas to develop 200 new parks in the present year 2019-20.
There are 612 parks existing across 15 different zones in the city. In addition, says G.Prakash, the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer, new parks are set to get constructed, especially at residential neighborhoods
Instead of the conventional use of tricycles, there are going to be vehicles operated with battery for the job of collecting garbage. In the first phase of the project, about 450 such vehicles shall go on for collecting garbage from residential areas that are highly congested.
Centre for drinking water
Furthermore, across 200 wards, community drinking water facilities are to be structured by the civic body as well. These shall have 20-litre drinking water cans for the price Rs 7. There will be 2 or 3 such centres in each and every ward.
Along Kosasthalaiyar and Kovalam basins, the City Corporation is likely to set up stormwater drains so as to bring down flooding. By September this year, these drains will be launched. KfW and ADB shall do the necessary funding for the project. With the funding received from World Bank, Adyar and Cooum basin works are already done.
There are also plans for developing storm water pumping stations. These are intended to clear out the stagnant water within 2 hours.
The civic body and police officials are set to construct necessary infrastructure for bringing down the overall response time and bring it down to lesser than 5 minutes instead of the present duration of 18+ minutes.
