Makkala Jagriti inaugurates new Learning Centre

Makkala Jagriti founded in 2003, with a vision of empowering children and youth, from marginalized communities through a holistic approach of learning, has set up a new learning centre in collaboration with Sharada Stree Samaja; an organisation that primarily focuses on education, with the objective to reach more children and youth from marginalized communities. The new centre aims to create a safe, conducive environment to empower children and youth in all aspects of life, through support and guidance, which will provide them a good sense of direction in life.

  Ms. Joy Srinivasan, Founder of Makkala Jagriti: "Makkala Jagriti`s core belief is in inclusion and collaboration towards creating a social movement. We believe this collaboration with Sharada Stree Samaja would benefit many children from marginalised communities .

Ms. Aarti, Sharada Stree Samaja:  "Namma makkalu innasthu jaggruka raaga beku (Our children should become a lot more aware)."

About Makkala Jagriti:

Makkala Jagriti (‘Awakening of Children’) established in 2003, is an Indian non-profit organization that seeks to create a holistic learning environment for marginalized children who cannot afford holistic learning opportunities.

At Makkala Jagriti, the mission is to make a positive difference to children´ quality of learning and development. The core focus is to strengthen the overall development of children.

The above is achieved through Intellectual, Emotional, Social, Psychological, Physical and Spiritual interventions. Facilitation of (non-formal) education and development of children by augmenting their school education through diverse learning opportunities and working closely with their parents, schoolteachers and the community as a whole to make the learning experience more enriching.

About Sharada Stree Samaja:

Sharada Stree Samaja, was established about a century ago, by Srimati Parvathamma Putenchetty with the objective to educate women and help with life skill activities. The branch currently located at Kumara Park East, was established in 1957 and the main aim behind the organisation’s mission is to educate the underprivileged. Currently, there are about 1000 children attending the centre and recently, the organisation touched a milestone by celebrating its centennial of its existence.
