The DMK has quit the UPA as its ally. The decision was taken this morning and the party head M. Karunanidhi said that it was based on differences with the government over India’s stand in the US led resolution in the UN against Sri Lanka for war crimes. The five ministers of the DMK in the Union Cabinet will quit their positions with immediate effect.
The Congress had sent three envoys on Monday to speak to Mr. Karunanidhi – P. Chidambaram, A.K. Antony and Ghulam Nabi Azad. The TNCC head had also spoken out on Monday saying that India will support the resolution but will also ask for a fair inquiry into the matter.
