It has been more than seven years since the restrictions where put in place for the sake of metro rail work at the intersection of Cenotaph Road with Anna Salai. Soon the motorists could feel very happy because starting from the next week 2-way traffic would be opened at this busy intersection of Cenotaph Road with Anna Salai.
The important information collected is CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited started underground services on the stretch in the month of May in 2018. Then after 2 months only the traffic police were able to take it over under their custody.
It is now said that once the restrictions gets removed then the motorists coming from Kotturpuram and beyond would be allowed to turn right from the Cenotaph Road to Anna Salai. The motorists would be able to go further and take a U turn or turn right on to the Bharathidasan Salai. In this place the popular SIET College for women is located is well known.
Many violations like jumping of traffic signals etc would not be there or would be reduced hereafter and this has been confirmed by the police officers. The important point to be noted is both Cenotaph Road as well as SIET traffic signals would be operated in tandem.
It is brought out that the proposal has been already sent to the deputy commissioner of police (south Chennai). In addition to this a prototype working plan has been sent to deputy commissioner of police. Motorists were able to turn left from the Cenotaph Road on to the Anna Salai and go towards the Nandanam signal in these last 7 years is well known. For the vehicles that were coming from Nandanam to Cenotaph Road, a dedicated bus-lane was provided.
It must be noted that those coming from Kotturpuram and beyond and wanting to go to Parrys did not find it easy. They were forced to travel up to Nandanam junction to take U turn and then proceed to their destinations. There were many complaints from the motorists going to Chennai Central or Parrys regarding their travel being tough in combination with those vehicles going towards Saidapet before taking U turn.
This has resulted in many incidents of traffic violations where cab drivers openly proceed in the wrong directions and thereby creating more risks for the other road users. A student belonging to SIET College spoke about how the situation was bad during the morning rush hours.
