The rank/merit list of the candidates who had applied to join postgraduate medical courses will be released tomorrow (Sunday, 31st March).
The online application/registration to pursue postgraduate medical courses such as M. D., M. S. and MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) by the candidates who had passed NEET commenced on 11th March and concluded at 5.00 PM on 20th March.
The Directorate the Medical Education informed that 11650 applications were received. As on last year, there were 1250 seats available in the medical colleges in Tamil Nadu to pursue postgraduate medical courses. In this situation, the Indian Medical Council approved an additional 124 seats.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of the Tamil Nadu State Medical Education had applied to convert the postgraduate medical diploma courses in the system over the last several years into postgraduate courses as well. The Indian Medical Council Members, after scrutinizing this application, have approved the conversion of 384 postgraduate diploma courses into postgraduate courses.
Subsequently, the number of seats for the postgraduate medical courses for the coming academic year 2019-20 has increased to 1758. Out of this, leaving aside the All India Quota of 50% seats, and the government quota of 235 seats are available from the private medical colleges. The counselling for these seats is to be scheduled shortly.
