The Election Commission has approved the proposal to increases the wages given under the 100 days Job Opportunity Scheme.
The Election Commission has thus approved this proposal to the Department of the Central Government Rural Development to increase the wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Job Opportunity Scheme.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Job Opportunity Scheme guarantees a minimum 100 days’ job in a year in te various projects/activities under execution under the central government for the rural citizens. .
The daily wage offered under this scheme varies from one state to another. It varies from Rs. 168 to Rs. 274 (depending on the state) per day after a recent increase. As of the year 2018, Rs. 224 is being offered in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The central government Department of Rural Development is the authority for fixing the daily wages for the rural agricultural labourers as above. This Department only recently accorded the increased wages for the 100 Days Job guarantee scheme.
The Ministry should have announced regarding the increased daily wages for the financial year 2019-20 for the 100 Days Job Guarantee scheme yesterday (Monday, 1st April) itself. However, as the parliamentary elections have been announced, there is a notion that any wage increase announcement would be a violation of the Election Code of Conduct.
So, the central government department of rural development had sought approval for announcing the increase in the daily wage. Now, the Election Commission has approved the same.
On this basis, it is expected that there would be a 5% increase in the daily wages under the 100 days job guarantee scheme as paid by the different states.
