Pakistani teenage braveheart Malala Yousafzai has started school in Birmingham. She will study class 9 and then choose her GCSE subjects. The school has asked the media to ‘allow her to attend school without intrusion and to respect the privacy of other pupils and parents’.
Speaking about her return to normal life, Malala said, ‘I am excited that today I have achieved my dream of going back to school. I want all girls in the world to have this basic opportunity. I miss my classmates from Pakistan very much but I am looking forward to meeting my teachers and making new friends here in Birmingham.’
Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban for ‘promoting secularism’. Pakistani doctors removed the bullet before airlifting her to the UK for treatment. She will now become a resident of the UK, after her father was offered a job with the Pakistani embassy in Birmingham.
