The Chennai High Court has ordered the central government to initiate immediate action to block the release of questionable video-clips known as ‘prank-shows’  and also block the downloading of Tik Tok App.

Muthukumar, an advocate from Madurai has filed a petition to the Madurai Branch of the Chennai High Court requesting a ban on the Tik Tok App and related videos which are more harmful to the society.

This enquiry came up before the bench of judges Kirupakaran and Sundar, On behalf of the petitioner, it was argued that this Tik Tok App has been banned in the USA and Indonesia under the Protection of Personal freedom including children on the internet.

With the prevailing status of an increasing trend of crimes against children and youth, the judges also raised the question of why this Act cannot be imposed here as well.

The judges observed that it should not be entirely left to the courts exclusively to take action on any events which harm the society. The government itself should come forward to initiate the required action.

Further, the judges ordered that central government initiate action to ban the downloading of the App Tik Tok and submit a report. The judges also ordered to block making of video-clips known as ‘prank show’ and also ban it from being telecast.
