The police helped stop a barrage of advocates from picketing the Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning. Almost 200 advocates were staging protests outside the Governor’s residence urging the Centre to back the US led resolution in the United Nations against Sri Lanka for war crimes during its civil war with the LTTE. The lawyers belonged to the Women Advocates Association, Bar Association of Saidapet, Bar Association of Egmore and the Madras High Court Advocates’ Association (MHAA).
Speaking at the protest venue, G. Mohanakrishnan, President of MHAA, said, ‘depending upon the outcome on the Sri Lankan issue in the national and international arenas, we will decide on the future course of agitation in a joint meeting of office bearers of the all the Bar Associations soon’
