The United States sponsored resolution in the world’s topmost human rights agency, the UNHRC, against Sri Lanka has been passed.

The resolution calls for a probe into the allegations of war crimes against civilians, especially Tamils, in the Lankan island during its long and gory civil war against the LTTE (Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam).

The United Nations Human Rights Council got its 47 members to vote and the resolution was passed with a final tally of 25-13. India voted against Sri Lanka. The next step will be to ‘initiate credible and independent actions’  to ensure accountability and justice.
