General Inflation rate up - now 3.18%

The general inflation rate, calculated on the basis of the wholesale prices, has gone up to 3.18% in March.

The Central government statistical report in this regard:

‘With the steep increase in the prices of food items and fuel, the general inflation has gone up to 3.18%in March. In January, it was 2.96% in February, it was 2.76%. The general inflation for the corresponding month of March in the last year was 2.74%.

The prices of vegetable are also shooting up. The inflation for this was 6.82% in February. In March, this has increased to 28.13%. However, as a consolation, the inflation rate for potato has come down steeply from 23.40% to 1.30%. In a similar trend, the inflation rates for pulses and wheat have come down to 10.63% and 10.13% respectively.

During March, the inflation rate for protein-rich food items such as egg, meat, fish, etc., was down to 5.86%. Inflation rate for onion was down to 31.34% and fruits, to 7.62%.

At the same time, the inflation rate for fuels has gone up from 2.23% to 5.41%. Especially, the inflation rate for diesel shot up from 3.72% to 7.33%. The inflation rate for petrol was down at 2.93% in February and in March, it was 1.78%.’
