Water Department to build ten check dams

On World Water Day, the Chief Engineer of the State’s Water Resource Department R. Emaraj has announced that three check dams were currently under construction and seven more were on their way, making the total number ten. The dams are expected to address the water deficit by conserving rain water and preventing ground water depletion.
He said that a check dam was under construction across the Kosathalaiyar River in Tiruvallur district. The dam is expected to store 150-200 million cubic feet of water. Construction for three other dams that that will store 0.5 tmcft of water will start soon.
