Fani intensifies to be an extremely severe cyclone! Prospects of mild rains in Tamil Nadu

The cyclone ‘Fani’, located over the southeast Bay of Bengal, has intensified further into an extremely severe cyclone on Tuesday (30 th April) morning. Due to this cyclone, the weather bureau has warned the fishermen not to venture into the turbulent sea in the southwest and the central-west Bay of Bengal.

The Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, S, Balachandran, shared in this regard:

‘Fani, after transforming into an extremely severe cyclone, is presently situated at 300 km away from Chennai over the southwest Bay of Bengal. This will intensify further and drift towards northwest till Wednesday (today, 1st May) evening and then drift slowly towards north and northeast directions  to Odisha. There would not be any harm to Tami Nadu due to this cyclone

Warning to fishermen: Due to the cyclone, strong winds may blow in the areas of Kanyakumari Ocean, Bay of Mannar, and the northern coastal areas. So, the fishermen must not venture into the sea in the southwest and central-west Bay of Bengal zones. The southwest and central-west Bay of Bengal seas will be turbulent until 2nd May.

As for the rains, there are prospects of mild rain in a few places in northern Tamil Nadu today (Wednesday, 1st May).’
