If you have been to the city of Bengaluru then you would noticed that BMTC or Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has got a mobile app that provides real time data on the buses to the passengers etc. It is now revealed that soon MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai would be following BMTC in this aspect. The point is MTC is now closing on finalising a contractor for developing a mobile app. It must be noted that the state transport department had called for the tenders for coding a mobile app for which a contractor is set to be finalized.
Once the MCC or Model Code of Conduct gets lifted, then the contractor would be selected and this was according to a senior official belonging to the State Transport Department. After finalizing the contractor, the mobile app would be up and would run within 90 days.
Through the mobile phones, real time data on the buses would be provided to the commuters by this app. This would be possible because GPS would be installed in the 3500 strong fleet of MTC buses. It is important to note that after the LS results are out then the transport department would unveil the redesigned MTC website.
It was pointed out by a senior official of MTC that in the month of March itself the new website was ready. The launch of this website was delayed due to the announcement of general elections. He finally hinted that after the election results come out then the new look website would be inaugurated. The complete fare list of the ordinary, express and deluxe buses would be available on the redesigned website of MTC.
It is said that in the search tab, a commuter would be able to identify the buses from one destination to another along with stage wise stops. Full set of bus timings would also be provided on the page. One important piece of information is in the old website the MTC had not displayed the small bus timings. In the new website, MTC has proposed to display the timings for the benefit of many passengers.
The important information is senior citizens would no longer have to wait in the long queues to get their concession forms as the set of forms would be available online itself. The new website would have the contact details of all the branch managers and the customer care number. This was as per a senior official of MTC.
