The National drug pricing regulator has reduced the retail sales prices of cancer-cure medicines by up to 87%.

This action has been taken after giving due consideration to the sufferings of the cancer patients and their families in procuring the related medicines.

The injection material (500 mg) for the chemotherapy given to lung cancer cure has been reduced from Rs. 22000 to Rs. 2800.  The 100 mg injection syringe price for the same treatment has been reduced from Rs. 7700 to Rs. 800.

The main point to note is that all the 9 medicines whose prices have been reduced are exclusively for the treatment of different cancer complaints.

During last February (2018), the prices of 42 cancer medicines were reduced by 3%. In the current year, the prices are being reduced for the 2nd time.

The central government Department of Health has emphasised the manufacturers that the production must not be reduced after this price reduction.

With the above substantial reduction in the prices of crucial medicines, over 22 Lakhs cancer patients in India will avail this benefit. It is estimated that the amount saved by them while buying these medicines will be down in total by Rs. 800 Crores!
