In the past, it was always believed that studying professional courses like engineering could guarantee a high salary job in a big organisation. The times have changed now.
Information collected is the engineering colleges present in the state of TN are staring at a bleak future now. The shocking news is for the first time in the last 5 years, the number of students seeking admission through single window has fallen drastically.
It must be noted that till 5 pm on Friday which was the last date of submitting applications, a total of 132,442 candidates have got themselves registered for online counselling for TNEA 2019. A total of 159,631 candidates have registered in the year 2018 is known. This was as per the Directorate of Technical Education or DOTE officials. It is worthy to note that these DOTE officials conduct online counselling for the engineering admissions.
On Friday, the deadline to submit applications given was till 11:59 pm. The amazing information is this would be lowest number of applications received till now by TNEA. More and more management seats were surrendered to TNEA for admissions and fewer students showed interest in these engineering programmes. This has been the case in the last few years of time.
As many as 1.40 lakh candidates registered for engineering admissions in 2017 and as many as 159,631 candidates registered for admissions in the year 2018. It is important to note that TNEA had an offer of 178,139 seats. In the beginning of the admission process, as many as 16,000 seats remained vacant and this had increased to 1.37 lakh seats when the final admission data was released few weeks back. Those seats under management quota had not been filled up.
It must not be forgotten that All India Council for Technical Education or AICTE has reduced the number of engineering seats in India in this year. The state of TN would have around 1.75 lakh seats atleast and instead of Anna University or AU, admissions are made by DOTE.
On 3rd June 2019, random numbers for the applicants would be generated and at the TNEA facilitation centres verification of original certificates would be done from 6th June to 11th June.
The important information collected is merit list would be out on 17th of June. For those candidates belonging to the special category, online counselling would commence from 20th June and for the candidates of general category online counselling would be on 1st July 2019.
