For candidates seeking to pursue the posts of teachers in their career, in government or government-aided schools, a pass in TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) is mandatory.

This year, TET is being conducted today (Friday, 7th June) and tomorrow (Saturday, 8th June).

In order to qualify as a teacher for classes 1st to 5th Standard, the candidate has to pass in the 1st Question Paper. In order to qualify as a teacher for classes 6th to 8th Standard, the candidate has to pass in the 2nd Question Paper.

It has been stipulated as a condition that all the teachers who had joined government-aided schools as teachers after the year 2010 who have not yet passed TET, must write this year’s TET and pass the same.

In this situation, 6 lakhs candidates have applied to write TET.

For conducting TET, 471 examination centres have been set up for the 1st Question paper and 1081 examination centres for the 2nd question paper have been set up in 32 districts for a total of 552 examination centres.

In Chennai Metro City, TET is conducted in 88 centres. Flying squads have been set up to prevent copying in the examination.

Carrying cell phones and other electronic gadgets is not allowed in the examination centres.

For supervising the examinations, over 1 Lakh personnel, mainly teachers and government employees have been deployed. Due to the error committed by some candidates, instead of the passport-size photograph to be affixed in the allotted space in the hall-ticket, only the candidate’s signature is found. Candidates who have such erratic hall-tickets can fix the photograph in the allotted space, get it attested by government registered Officer and then take the same to participate in TET.

While entering the examination centre, the candidates need to submit another photo to the Chief Supervisor in the centre. Further, the candidates need to bring the government Identity Proof material such as PAN card, Aadhar card, or Passport.
