Court orders release of SL fishermen

A Special Court in Ramanathapuram in South Tamil Nadu has ordered the release of five Sri Lankan fishermen. The fishermen were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard on March 17th this year. They went out to sea from their hometown on March 14th and drifted into Indian waters by mistake. They were arrested and their boat, catch and belongings were confiscated by the Indian authorities.
The Special Court has said that the release should happen in a day or two and that the fishermen ventured into Indian water by mistake. The sea’s current and the winds also caused the mistake, the Court said. The fishermen were lodged in Srvaikuntam prison.
