A group of around 100 students were arrested on Wednesday for trying to lock the All India Radio (AIR) office. The group that consisted of representatives from Loyola College, Presidency College, Government Law College and New College met at the Gandhiji Statue on Marina Beach and then marched to the AIR office on Kamarajar Salai.

The arrest was made by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mylapore S. Lakshmi. She rushed to the premises after receiving news of the impending action. The students’ group, which included 15 women, was taken to a hall in Mylapore and let off later with a warning.

The students were trying to get a message across to the Centre. They urged the Centre to support the referendum for a Tamil Eelam and to push for an international probe into Sri Lanka’s war crimes.
