Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palanisamy inaugurated the function marking the distribution of smart cards for all the students studying in government or government-aided schools from 1st to +2 on Thursday (13th June) at the Chennai Chief Secretariat.
ID cards are being issued to all students studying in private schools. Each private schools designs these ID cards as per their preference and distribute the same to their students. A small amount is collected as charges for these ID cards.
Subsequently, the State Government Department of School Education took the decision to issue similar ID cards which should offer some more facilities as well.
Subsequently, the efforts and the initiation of related activities started as early as 2011, various other tedious activities involved in this effort such as the collection of all personal details of the students, removal of the names of students who got transfer certificates and left the school, uploading of all these data in the official website of the state government department, etc, and the difficulties encountered in the technological issues, the entire project got unduly delayed.
In this scenario, smart cards have been prepared for all the 70 lakhs students studying in government or government-aided schools in the state of Tamil Nadu in the classes from 1st Standard to +2 at a cost of Rs. 12.70 Crores.
As a token form of inaugurating this function of the distribution of smart ID cards for the above students, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister distributed the smart ID cards to 7 students at the Chief Secretariat on Thursday, 13th June.
The smart ID cards have several highlighting features:
Name of the students, Father’s Name, Unique Identification Number, Name of the School, Student’s address, Date of Birth, and photographs are all entered in this smart ID card.
Apart from this, a new technological feature known as QR Code is also introduced in the card. This QR code can be scanned using a smartphone and then this can be used to access all details about the concerned student.
The State Minister for School Education Sengottaiyan and Director Rameswaramurugan also participated in the function.
