After the success of the first edition of Human Library event concluded in April, British Council and Human Library Chennai is back with the second edition of Human Library. The Human Library is an interactive session where audience (readers) can experience and read people like the way they read books.

With its legacy of being a knowledge center for over 70 years, the British Council library has been playing a key role in partnering with India’s knowledge ambitions and continues to do so. It is gradually evolving into a cultural hub – a place where people can explore and share ideas that people would want to deliberate further.

The human books in this library are people who have experienced prejudices in the society and have fought them to be who they are. The idea of this library is to allow these books (people) to share their stories and allow the readers to widen their perspectives while listening and relating to their experiences. Around 10 human books will narrate their life stories to the readers that will motivate and inspire readers in Chennai.

Human Library was first developed in Copenhagen, Denmark in the year 2000 as a project which eventually became really popular amongst several audiences. Since then, more than 70 countries have adopted the program. Each story in itself is unique and has witnessed victory eventually. The joint objective of British Council and Human Library Chennai is to instil an urge to gain self-awareness by engaging in inspiring and impactful conversation. British Council had earlier hosted the Human Library in April as well.
