With the publishing and release of the new Time-table of Southern Railways scheduled on 1st July, the travel time in section Chennai-Madurai is reduced.

This travel time reduction in the Chennai-Madurai section has come about after the completion of laying a double-track and electrification around 15 months ago.

The new timetable for the Southern Railways is set to be released on 1st July. In this, around 10 trains operating in the Chennai-Madurai section will be speeded up.

When the new timetable is released,  the travel time in this section will reduce by 5 to 30 minutes. This initiative has been taken in order to maintain the timings as well as prevent getting late.

In revised time-table, the travel time of express trains Pandian Express, Anantapuri Express has been reduced to 7 hours and 50 minutes. The distance of 495 km between Chennai and Madurai will be covered by Pandian Express in 8 hours and 5 minutes and Anantapuri Express by 8 hours and 20 minutes.

In a similar trend, the Chennai-Kollam Express train and the Guruvayur Express train will reach 20 minutes and 10 minutes earlier respectively. The travel time of Nellai Express and Muthunagar Express is to be reduced by 5 minutes.

Apart from the above, changes are to be made in the departure time of Nellai Express and Anantapuri Express from the Chennai Egmore Railway Station from 1st July. Nellai Express will start at 7.50 PM and Anantapuri Express at 8.10 PM.

Regarding the release of the  new time-table of Southern Railways, an ex-member of the Zonal Passengers advisory Council, Giri, shared: ‘The speed of the trains in the section Chennai-Madurai on either trip has not been increased, Some of our demands have not been accepted!’

A Senior Leader of the Tamil Nadu Industry and Trading Association, S. Rathnavel shared: ‘The travel time of the Pandian Express should be reduced to 7 hours OR 7 hours and 15 minutes. The entire tracks should be strengthened  and the trains must be speeded up!’
