A project that is part of the Southern Railways Improvement of Passengers Amenities Scheme for 2011-12 has started work on the perambur Railway Station.
The bid to improve the station is estimated to cost Rs. 1.2 crores. The work will be completed in six months according to officials. Station Manager S. Murugadas said,"A total revamp is being undertaken after several decades, keeping in mind of the needs of commuters, including long-distance travellers. Once completed, it will give a fresh look to the station."
The work will include extending the existing platforms to make it is for long distance trains to ply, computerizing reservation counters, constructing additional entrances and building a new parking facility.
