V. Narayanaswamy, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, has said that the first Unit of the Indo-Russian Kudankalam Nuclear Power Plant will begin production in April of this year. The second unit will start working in October 2013. India and Russia have also signed an agreement for construction of a third and fourth unit.
Mr. Narayanaswamy said that both Indian and Russian scientists have checked the parameters of the plant and have given the OK. He also said that Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the plant during the BRICS (Brazil Russia India China South Africa) Summit in Durban.
