Today (Friday, 16th August) is the concluding day of the 48 days ‘Lord Athi Varadhar Vaibhav’!
As such, huge crowds of devotees in lakhs have gathered in Kanchipuram.
As almost everyone is well aware, this “Lord Athi Varadhar Vaibhavam” happens only once in 40 years and today is the concluding day.
Today is the 47th Day. The idol of Lord Athi Varadahar is adorned in Rose-and pink coloured silk and offers Darshan for the long queue of devotees waiting in line.
The system of VIP Darshan concluded at 2.00 PM yesterday (Thursday, 15th August).
Today being the concluding day, huge crowds of devotees have been waiting right from the early morning. The waiting queue of devotees is almost 5 km long needing to wait for a long time before the Darshan!
Because of the large crowd as expected on the last day, safety/security arrangements have been made accordingly.
The District Collector has announced that special poojas will be performed tomorrow on the deity of Lord Athi Varadhar and then the idol would be placed back in the sacred Ananthasaras Pond. Security arrangements have been made accordingly.
It may be noted that lakhs of devotees visited every day and waited for the Darshan of Lord Athi Varadhar over these days!
As yesterday (Thursday, 15th August, Independence Day) was a holiday, more than 5 lakhs devotees had gathered for the Darshan! The celebrated film actor Nayanthara was among the devotees.
As the traditional ‘Aadi Garuda Seva’ was to be performed on the deity of Lord Varadaraja Perumal, the Darshan of Lord Athi Varadhar was stopped temporarily at 5.00 PM.
The idol of Lord Varadharaja Perumal on the carriage of Lord Garuda offered Darshan to the devotees by 7.00 PM.
The corridors for Darshan of Lord Athi Varadhar were opened again by 8.00 PM and devotees were allowed in the common queue.
From today (Friday, 16th August) at 5.00 AM, the devotees are allowed only in the common Darshan line.
Arrangements are being made tomorrow (Saturday, 17th August) for placing the idol of Lord Athi Varadhar back in the pond.
After this, the idol of Lord Athi Varadhar will be taken out again only after 40 years in 2059.
It may be noted that 10100000 devotees had Darshan over the last 46 days.
During this grand “Athi Varadhar Vaibhavam” over the last 45 days, total cash of Rs. 75900000, 127 grams of gold, and 3618 grams of silver have been contributed by the Devotees in the Hundi.
It is worth noting especially that the Hundi was opened yesterday (15th August, Thursday) and a cash amount of Rs. 7454698, 9 grams of gold and 250 grams of silver was taken out as per the announcement made by the Joint Commissioner of the Hindu Endowment Board Senthilvelavan
It may also be noted that the total of devotees had crossed the 1-Crore mark!
