With the concluding Friday, the 47th day of the sacred event of Athi varadhar Vaibhavam, the sacred event of placing the idol of Lord Athi Varadhar back in the Holy Ananthasaras Pond is all set to be performed today (Saturday, 17th August).
It had been announced earlier that the ‘Lord Athi Varadhar Vaibhavam’ was scheduled to commence on 1st July and performed for 48 continuous days until 17th August. Accordingly, the idol of Lord Athi Varadhar offered Darshan to lakhs of devotees on a lying posture for 31 days throughout the month of July. From 1st August, the idol of Lord Athi Varadhar offered Darshan ina standing posture.
On the 47th and the concluding day (Friday, 16th August), the ‘Lord Athivaradhar Vaibhavam’, the deity of Lord Athi Varadhar was adorned with fenugreek-coloured silk cloth and a pink-coloured ‘angavastram’ (upper body covering garment) and offered Darshan to the devotees. Also, the special garlands made of cashew nuts and Almond nuts were adorned on the idol of Lord Athi Varadhar.
A special ‘ Sahsranama Archanai’ was performed by the temple priests.
Thus, on Saturday, 17th August, the 48th Day, special poojas were performed on Lord Athi Varadhar. After the conclusion of the special poojas, arrangements are being made to place the idol of the Lord Athi Varadhar back in the sacred Anathasaras pond during the evening.
The district collector of Kanchipuram had announced earlier that the VIP Darshan system alone would be cancelled on the concluding 47th day on Friday.
Accordingly, VIP Darshan system was cancelled yesterday (Friday, 16th August). The devotees entered through Eastern Temple Tower Entry in the general line for Darshan of Lord Athi Varadhar.
On Friday, around 3 Lakh devotees had Darshan of Lord Athi Varadhar in the general queue.
Arrangements for the Darshan had been made according to the strength of waiting crowds of devotees.
As there was no VIP Darshan line, the devotees informed that they needed to wait only for 2 hours for the Darshan.

The families of the Central Government Minister for Water resourcesGajendra Singh Shekhawat, the joint Minister of Finance Anurag Singh, The Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman, the prominent erstwhile Congress Leader Kumari Ananthan, and the Tamil Nadu BJP President Thamizhisai Soundararajan visited and had Darshan of Lord Athi Varadhar.
The temple priests offered the above V VIPs shawls and garlands and a picture of Lord Athi Varadhar and the temple holy food offerings.
