High resolution cameras with ANPR installed in ECR to nab the violators

If you are travelling through the scenic ECR or East Coast Road in Chennai, don’t forget to follow the traffic rules. If not, then you would be in trouble for sure.

It is now revealed that in ECR in Chennai the city police have installed high resolution automatic number plate recognition cameras or ANPR. The main purpose is to prevent traffic violations that included speeding of vehicles etc. To monitor the movements of the revellers on the road, exclusive outpost has been set up at Mutukadu.

On Wednesday, Chennai city police commissioner, Mr. Viswanathan caught the attention when he inaugurated as many as 8 CCTV cameras with ANPR facility at the outpost at Muttukadu besides as many as 2907 CCTV cameras covering several areas under Neelangarai police range.

Meeting took place between Mr. Viswanathan and some professionals who suggested installation of CCTV cameras having the facility to capture videos and pictures of vehicles violating traffic rules and to facilitate issuing of challans immediately.

The Chennai city police commissioner spoke about how the CCTV cameras were placed at every 50 metres and how they were functioning well. He added that these devices were useful to crack cases of crimes against women like mobile phone snatching and chain snatching etc. It is superb to note that when compared to the past the crimes have been reduced by 50 % now because of the presence of CCTV cameras.

Motorists must voluntarily follow the traffic rules and wear helmets inspite of the presence of CCTV cameras. This was as per Mr. Viswanathan. He shed light on how the fine amount has been increased and how fine for drunken driving was Rs 10,000 and how fine amount of Rs 5000 would be collected from those driving without license. He concluded that the rules have been amended enhancing fines for traffic violations by the central government and soon would come to force.
