The effects of southeast monsoon nearing break in other parts of India has resulted in rains in Chennai on Wednesday. This rain would be there in Chennai for another day too and this was according to the prediction made by the meteorological department.

High temperature in the day time has triggered the convective activity and because of this there would be rains in Chennai on Thursday. The condition of the sky is likely to be partly cloudy and the maximum temperature is likely to be around 36 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 27 degrees Celsius.

In the evening of Wednesday, many parts belonging to the city of Chennai received short spells of good rains. This is due to the fact that the rain clouds moved from west to east and converged with the sea breeze from the eastern side. As a result of the rains, mild flooding was caused in the streets and the peak hour traffic was affected.

Chennai weather blogger, Mr. Pradeep john mentioned about how Chennai would get rains a day before the formation of low pressure over Bay of Bengal. He added that perfect convergence is happening now in places like Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai belt. It must be noted that after low formation the chances of rains reduces in Chennai. He later explained about how the towering clouds moving in from Chitoor via Tiruttani, Arakkonam, Tiruvallur, Avadi and Poonamallee finally move into parts of Chennai. He hinted about the presence of alto-cumulus or fish scales that were present in the morning.

It is important to note that Chennai city would get some more rains by middle of September when the southwest monsoon reaches the foothills of Himalayas and achieves a break. This was as per an official belonging to the meteorological department. The official later spoke about how when southwest monsoon breaks and later withdraws city of Chennai would get more rains just similar to how Chennai is getting rains now. He concluded that the rains might not be intense but it would be short spells at different parts of the city of Chennai.
