What the Chennai chapter of this NGO is doing with respect to food distribution to poor is tremendous

Many of us would have felt bad and frustrated on seeing huge amounts of food getting wasted in the weddings etc.
Wedding is once in a lifetime event and people spend lavishly for the wedding is a known fact. It is worthy to mention here that the food accounts for the biggest proportion of 24 percent on the wedding day and this was according to a database company Statista.
It is shocking to note that 10 % to 20% of the food served at the weddings goes waste. Coimbatore based NGO ‘No Food No waste’ has been doing superbly in tackling the surplus food and in curbing wastage of food. This NGO plays a huge role in collecting the excess food and then distributing the food to those in need across 16 districts in TN.
Recently, an initiative ‘Zero Food Waste Wedding’ was launched in Chennai by this NGO and the concerned parties could register with the group before the wedding day and share excess food from the wedding for redistributing to those who need food.
Mr. Arun Kumar, coordinator of Chennai operations expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how the wedding season has started and is going on in full swing now. He highlighted how he and his team have been collecting food from marriages, parties etc but announcement was made recently as it was considered as a right moment.
Mr. Arun Kumar added that NGO would be able to prioritize the pick-up when the people register with the details of the event, number of plates of food (minimum 50 plates) etc. Finally, he spoke about how 10 odd registrations were received this month already. It is superb to mention that people are highly concerned about food getting wasted in the weddings.
It must be noted that Chennai city chapter has got 240 active volunteers belonging to various backgrounds across different age groups. Information is Chennai chapter has collected as many as 85000 food plates and when the number of volunteer increases then more number of food plates could be collected and given to the poor.
