The central government has ordered that all the state governments should send their suggestions/reports regarding the removal of those who are not interested in constructing own house under the Prime Minister’s Scheme.

Under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, houses are built and given to the houseless and the poorer sections of the economy and those who reside in huts.

An amount of Rs. 2,10 Lakhs is given for constructing own house. In order to avail this scheme, a list of beneficiaries has already been prepared from the base data available from ‘Socio-Economic Survey List - 2011’. However, many individuals in this list have not opted for building a house.

A letter has been sent in this regard to all the State Government Secretaries in the Department of Rural Development. The details:

A list of beneficiaries has been prepared to avail the Prime Minister’s House Scheme. Many individuals in this list have not opted to construct their own house.

Hence, the data of the destitute people, the people who have been rescued from bonded labour, and labourers working as cleaners must be immediately added to the above-mentioned list of beneficiaries.

However, the names of the men/women who are over 65 years of age, the individuals suffering in extreme poverty should not be removed from this beneficiaries list and instead, these people should be helped to construct their own houses.

Further, the names of beneficiaries in the list who are shifting the residential location, or not opting for constructing a house or those who are facing current problem regarding the land should not be removed. These might opt for building a house later! This should be confirmed by conducting a ‘Grama Sabha Meeting’. The reason for not opting to build own house should be ascertained from those who have not opted. A new land must be given to those who do not own land.

In case interested to remove the names of those who have not opted to build their own house, all the relevant documents should be sought from them. Also, the suggestions regarding the action to remove the names of the individuals who have not opted to build their own houses must be sent to the Central Government before 15th September.

The central government will take appropriate actions after the scrutiny of the letters above from all the states.
