30 km ORR to be ready soon

The 30 km road connecting Vandalur on NH5 and Nemmicherry on NH 205 will be ready in two months. The road being named Outer Ring Road (ORR) is a Rs. 1,081 crore project and consists of 18 pedestrian subways, 8 vehicular subways, 3 major bridges, 2 minor bridges and 3 flyovers. Bus shelters, truck bays and wayside amenities are also being built.
Says a commuter, ‘Now, it takes me about two hours to reach Avadi. Even if I take the Chennai Bypass, it takes an hour-and-a-half. Once the road is completed, this will come down by an hour.’
An official said, ‘Only portions of the road that connect minor bridges and flyovers are not yet laid. The road work will be finished by June. Motorists are already using the road and in places where the road surface is yet to be laid, they just take deviations.’
