Entry of sewage into the drinking water sumps in Adyar

The Adyar locality residents are now in a state of shock. The reason for this is due to the entry of sewage into the drinking water sumps. This issue has been present in Jeevarathinam Nagar in Adyar. It was brought out that a private telecommunication company punctured a sewage pipeline on Tuesday night.
It must be noted that a private telecomm was involved in the road digging for the last 2 days. This was as per a resident belonging to the first street. He was unhappy about the telecomm company breaking the sewage pipeline. He said that after breaking the sewage pipeline the private telecomm employees went away without informing this issue to the concerned authorities. It is important to mention here that foul smell started emanating from the drinking water sump as soon as the private company punctured the sewage pipeline.
This issue was informed to the CMWSSB authorities but they did not take any action. This was pointed out by the resident. It must be noted that the telecomm company got permission from police as well as from the GCC to install optical fibre cable network. For the sake of installing the cable, the private telecomm had dug up the road for a depth of 5 feet. By this, they have damaged the service connections to the houses present on the first street of Jeevarathinam Nagar.
It was pointed out by an official that they were not informed about the work that was taken up on Tuesday night. He highlighted that the issue has been identified and he assured that the pipeline would be restored by Wednesday night. Point to be noted is beneath the road surface water supply and sewage pipelines run at a depth of 5 ft to 6 ft. It is said that digging without knowing the location of pipeline has often resulted in these issues.
