The Southern Railways have joined the Facebook bandwagon. Less than a week since it opened its doors at the world’s most used social media networks, the page has 373 likes. Many people have started posting suggestions regarding publication of time table, launch of trains announced in the budget and stoppage of trains on the page.
Some other government organizations to have a Facebook page are the Chennai Police, Chennai Metro Rail and the Election Commission, among others.
Speaking about the move, a Railways official said, ‘The page was launched on the instructions of the Railway Board. From announcements on new trains to change in service pattern and special trains, the FB page will furnish all useful and new information to the people about SR, the official said. Besides networking, the FB page will help the department get instant public feedback on any new idea.’
