Smart Ration Cards - important details

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy had announced that no paper-based card/document would be in practice from this year! Yes! Smart ration cards are to be distributed to the citizens for procurement of all items in the ration/PDS shops (Public Distribution Shops).

The reasons for the introduction of ‘Smart’ ration cards

Presently, there is a large number of duplicate ration cards being used and in circulation. This usage of bogus cards leads to a situation in realising the main objective of distributing the necessary products to the really deserving needy people. So the Government decided to go with Smart Ration Card.

The Details in Smart Ration Card

Every Smart Ration Cards has the details of a particular family respectively Names, Mobile number, Address, Aadhar Card Number.

Using the App for the smart ration card

It is easy and simple to use the App. This app & website is completely in Tamil. So anyone can access easily.

The procedure
  • Download the App.
  • Go to the Login Section.
  • Enter your mobile no which you have given to the ration shop vendor.
  • You will receive a One Time Password (OTP), in your mobile as above.
  • Enter that OTP number.
Now, the family details will be displayed. If there is any mistake, it can be corrected easily.

The procedure to get Smart Ration Card

The citizen, who had applied for the smart ration card will get an SMS from Tamil Nadu Public Distribution Sector. Immediately visit the relevant ration shop to get a Smart Ration Card.

 If any updating has been done on the ration card, then visit the TN e-Seva Centre nearest to the residence to get the smart card by submitting essential details as follows:
  • The Mobile Phone as registered in Ration Card to get OTP.
  • Ration Card & its photocopy.  A minimum amount will be charged for this service.

  • The facility to edit family details & upload a family head photo
  • Access the prices of products which sold in ration shops.
  • While buying, no bills will be given, But SMS will be sent as ‘e-bill’.
  • In case of improper delivery of bought items/bill, report.
