Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has announced that 16.726 sanitary workers will be appointed in village Panchayats in Tamil Nadu. This will be in addition to the existing workers, totally 9,896 in number. The employees will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 2000 a month and a Rs. 40 dearness allowance.
Speaking in the Assembly, Ms. Jayalalithaa said, ‘One more sanitary worker would be appointed in each of the 8,469 villages having a population below 3,000. A total of 3,908 panchayats having more than 3,000 residents would get two additional sanitary workers, while 147 villages that have a population above 10,000 would have three additional sanitary workers.’
