The Department of Police has granted conditional approval to lay concrete roads in the national highways at 3 junctions.

The expansion project to convert the present Chennai-Bengaluru Highway to be a 6-lane highway has been on the shelf without any start over the last several years.

Now, the project estimate is being prepared for the construction of overbridge road in section Maduravoyil-Poonamallee.

Citing this proposed project as the main reason, the National Highway Commission has not undertaken the renovation of the highway. So, in the junctions at Vaanagaram, Thiruverkadu, and Parivakkam, the roads were in far worse conditions leading to many accidents and loss of lives.

Demands/appeals were made to the National Highways Department. A fund of Rs. 10 Crores was allotted for this work. Presently, it is planned to lay concrete roads at 3 junctions. Currently, the activity of scraping out the old road is in progress. The Chennai Metro City Traffic Police has allowed the national Highway Department to proceed with the work only during the night sessions. It has also asked that the work has been completed before 30th November.

As the old road is found to be quite hard, the work progress is delayed. Once this is completed, the laying of concrete roads will commence.
