The fishermen claimed that they were attacked with wooden logs by the Sri Lankan Navy. They also said that their catch was destroyed. They were four nautical miles off the coast of Kodikarai when a speed boat that contained Sri Lankan Navy personnel attacked them.
The names of the injured fishermen are Slevam, Mariyappan, Vijaykumar and Soundararajan. They all come from the fishing hamlet of Vellapallam near Nagapattinam.
