Driving licence renewal period set as 1 year!

The renewal period for the driving licences which was 5 years until now, has now been reduced to only 1 year in Tamil Nadu.
This has been done in accordance with the new Motor Vehicle Act.
In case the individual fails to renew within this revised period, they might need to take a fresh driving licence!
