Uthukottai in TN border to receive Krishna water in 5 days

The wait for the Krishna water would soon be over for the Chennai people. The city of Chennai has been expecting Krishna water from the state of Andhra Pradesh is well known. It must be taken into account that this Krishna water was released from Kandaleru reservoir of AP on Wednesday.

The latest news that has come out is in another 5 days of time Krishna water would reach the Tamil Nadu town of Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district. Information collected is discharged from the reservoir in AP was stepped up to 1000 cubic feet per second or cusecs by Wednesday evening and it is now revealed that on Thursday the discharge would be increased to 2000 cusecs. This was confirmed by the officials belonging to the water resource department or WRD.

It is important to mention here that water would be reaching Uthukottai by means of 152 km Kandaleru- Poondi canal. The storage point for Krishna water in Chennai is Poondi reservoir is known. It is said that the Krishna water has to travel further 25 km to reach Poondi reservoir.

As per an official of WRD, it is revealed that if Poondi reservoir realizes an average of 1000 cusecs daily then the storage would increase by 1000 million cubic feet or tmc ft in 24 days of time. Point is Kandaleru reservoir has got storage of 12.9tmc ft and the water got from the reservoir would be beneficial for the Chennai city as the issue of water crisis would be solved. The canal is not totally dry and the officials expect Krishna water to reach the Chennai city quickly. From its catchment areas, Poondi reservoir has been receiving an inflow of 425 cusecs now.

The superb piece of information is in the coming days there would be better water supply in the city of Chennai as the release of Krishna water has increased the hopes now. Information is presently 525 mld of water is being supplied to the people belonging to Chennai city. The official spoke about how if there is enough inflow then the government would take a decision on increasing the water supply for Chennai.

It must not be forgotten that in the month of August a meeting took place between the chief minister of AP, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy and the minsters of TN. In the meeting, the chief minister of AP promised t release 8tmc ft of Krishna water for this spell.
