In a special event organized for acquisition/inauguration, of 370 new buses, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy flagged off some new buses today (Thursday, 26th September).
Out of the 370 buses, the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation has been allotted 30 buses. SETC (State Express Transport Corporation) has been allotted 65 buses.
TNSTC got 275 buses with the break-up Villupuram 27, Salem-57, Coimbatore-104, Kumbakonam-41, Madurai-20, and Tirunelveli-26.
In the above-mentioned event, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister flagged off 5 buses from the Central Secretariat, as a token gesture.
Since it acquired power in 2011, the ruling Tamilnadu government has inducted 13253 new buses in state transport undertakings.
It is very noteworthy that around 1.74 Crores commuters avail the services of the State Transport Corporation every day!
