This news would bring happiness to the faces of MTC commuters of Chennai now.
News that has come out is around 50 new red air-conditioned buses would be added to the existing fleet of MTC in Chennai. It is said that soon Chennai roads would have air-conditioned MTC buses back again almost after a year. This has been confirmed by the state transport minister Mr. M.R. Vijayabhaskar.
Later in this 2019, these new air-conditioned MTC buses would be flagged off along with the 180 ordinary MTC buses. The sources have mentioned that 50 more a/c buses would be provided to TNSTC Villupuram. Information is other transport corporations belonging to Madurai, Coimbatore, Kumbakonam, Tirunelveli, and Salem would get 10 a/c buses each.
At the units in Karur, bodies of these buses are being built is known. The routes along which the Volvo buses were operated earlier would be taken up by these new 50 buses. It was later pointed out by a source that in November 2018 of the total 100 Volvo buses the last Volvo bus was condemned. It must be noted that these new 50 a/c buses would run in south Chennai on the IT corridor on OMR and GST Road along Tambaram.
As per an official of MTC, it is clear that depending on the demand the bus services would be altered and no area would be left out. It is important to note that Chennai city would be getting TN first long-distance electric bus named ‘Green Bus’. The point is these buses could go till 250 km in one go when their batteries are charged fully. It is revealed that the bus operated on the route A1 (Thiruvanmiyur - Chennai Central) could cover short distances and is suited for town services only. It was later mentioned by an official belonging to MTC that green bus could function as mofussil service.
