A special sales fair is being organized on the occasion of Ayudha Pooja at the Chennai wholesale fruit / vegetable / flower market at Koyambedu with more than 1000 shops being set up for sales!
It is a traditional practice for opening special additional shop fair in the Koyambedu wholesale market during the festive seasons of Pongal, Ayudha Pooja, etc. on behalf of the Koyambedu Market Administration. As such, the special sales fair with additional shops was inaugurated yesterday (Thursday, 3rd October).
In this special trade fair, items that are not usually available such as the Pooja items at the normal Koyambedu market will all be available! This special fair will remain open until 11th October. More than 1000 shops are set to be opened this year.
Lakhs of customers are expected to visit for purchase of items including the Pooja special items.
So, some special security/safety arrangements are being made like setting up temporary blockades separating the vegetable/fruit/flower sections, setting up 6 temporary towers for monitoring the activities.
500 police personnel have been deployed.
This year, the auction for the special fair was Rs. 15.90 Lakhs including the tasks of the collection of charges for the vehicles` entry and then collecting payment from the traders, etc.,
Posters have been struck everywhere in the market. There has been a complaint that higher amounts are being collected from the traders. The auction price, as compared to last year, is higher by 10%.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Administration, S. Govindarajan has informed that stringent action will be taken on the contractors (who took up the function from the auction) in case complaints are received regarding the collection of excessive charges.
