The Tamil Nadu Government’s National Handloom products exhibition commenced recently in the Chennai Metro City Kalaivanar Arangam has been quite popular and attracting customers in huge numbers!
With the ensuing important Deepavali festival and the festive season, the ‘National Handloom Fair 2019’, conducted on behalf of the Tamil Nadu State Government Department of handloom and threads commenced at the Chennai Metro City Kalaivanar Arangam located in Wallja Road.
There are 61 stalls set up in the fair. 150 Handloom Weavers Associations, located throughout the state of Tamil Nadu and also the Weavers Cooperative Associations from the other states have participated in this fair. The items displayed and sold in the fair include:
World-famous silk saris and Dhotis from Kanchipuram, Thirubhuvanam, Aarani, and Salem
- Soft-silk saris from Coimbatore and Tirupur,
- Cotton saris from Chettinadu, Paramakkudi, Uraiyur, Vilandhai, and Negamam
- Printed, embroidered saris and churidar sets from Bengal cotton, Sandheri, Pochampalli, Venkatagiri
These products have been major attractions drawing huge lots of visitors.
The exhibition is set to conclude on 25th October.
Visitors are allowed daily from 10.00 AM to 8.00 PM.
A sales target of Rs. 2.50 Crores has been set for this fair.
With the view to enhance the already growing sales of handloom textiles, with the encouragement given by the state government, a ‘mobile’ handloom items sales shop has been set up on a bus! With the mobile sales shop, visits will be made to the suburban centers for prospective customers and promote sales!
