The state government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the Dearness allowance (D. A.) will be increased by 5% for all the state government employees and government school teachers.
As per this, 12 Lakhs state government employees/teachers will get an addition of Rs. 750 to Rs. 10000 to their monthly salary.
During the central cabinet meeting conducted on 9th October headed by prime minister Narendra Modi, a decision was taken to increase the Dearness Allowance of the central government employees and pensioners by 5% constituting 17% of the basic pay. It was announced that this increase would be effective from 1st July 2019. Subsequently, there was an appeal to increase the DA for the Tamil Nadu State government employees as well. Accordingly, the state government of Tamil Nadu announced the 5% increase in DA for its employees yesterday (Friday, 17th October).
In an order released in this regard by the Secretary of the Department of Finance of the Tamil Nadu State Government mentions:
‘Following the central government order increasing the DA for its employees, the DA for the Tamil Nadu state government employees are also increased by 5%. On this basis, the employees and school teachers of the Tamil Nadu State government will be paid this additional DA effective from 1st July 2019. Accordingly, the increase is from the present DA as 12% of the basic pay is increased to 17% of the basic pay.
The 3 months’ additional DA will be paid as per the current system of the cashless transaction (through banks). This increase in Dearness Allowance will be applicable to teachers in government or government-aided schools/educational institutions, other state government employees, officer/staff of the local administrations, employees under the UGC (University Grants Commission) and AITEC (All India Technical Education Council), employees in the technology training institutes, teachers are the educational institutions offering special diploma courses, physical education directors,/librarians, the salaried village assistants in the Revenue Department, employees in the nutrition scheme, child welfare department, Anganwadi employees, the cooks/cook assistants in the nutrition meal scheme, employees in the rural growth administration, and clerks.’
The government employees’ association administrator shared in this regard that the government employees will get an increment of up to Rs. 750 following this upward DA revision. For the employees in higher official posts such as IAS cadre, the increase in monthly salary will be up to Rs. 10000. With this, around 12 lakh state government employees will benefit. However, this increment has not been announced for pensioners and family pensioners. This is expected to be announced shortly.
