The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a Bill in the State Assembly that recommends that the Annamalai University in Chidambaram be taken over by themselves. If the Bill is passed, the Government will put one of its representatives as pro chancellor of the University. The current pro chancellor is Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy, grandson of the founder, Raja Sir Muthaiah Chettiyar.
The Annamalai University Act will ensure that the State’s Higher Education Minister be appointed pro chancellor and that all property whether moveable or immovable, belonging to the University or the Trust, be transferred to the Government along with its liabilities.
