Dr. Nithyakalyani, an Occupational therapist, informed that a skill development program for the nurses is scheduled to be conducted from 1st November. This is mainly in order to meet the short supply in the demand for nurses and also to enable them to enhance their skills.
Dr. Nithyakalayani had a session with the press in the Sundaram Medical Foundation in Chennai Anna Nagar and shared:
The role played by the nurse`s inpatient recovery is simply enormous! In fact, nurses are the heart of the entire treatment. However, presently, there exists an unfortunate situation of acute shortage of skilled nurses.
At the global level, there are 22 nurses for 10000 people. However, in India, there are only 17 nurses for 10000 people!
Actually, the requirement is 3 nurses for 1 doctor. In India, it is 1.6 nurses per doctor. Further, curses on nursing are conducted in Tamil Nadu in 178 private colleges and 5 government medical colleges. Every year, 10000 nurses come out completing their course. However, they are not skilled enough!
Especially, the work-load, work-share and salary levels for nurses in urban and rural areas have a lot of differences.
In order to solve this issue, and to help emerge highly skilled nurses, Sundaram Medical Foundation, Umayal Aachi Nurses College, and Technocrats India College Finder together are organizing a special 6-weeks nurses’ skill development course especially for the nurses who come out completing their courses in rural educational institutions.
This 6-week skill improvement program for nurses will be conducted every year once. 30 students (men and women) will be in each class.
The program will be organized in Sundram Medical Foundation. The training is scheduled to start on 1st November.
