In Chennai, the Thiruneermalai and Thirumudivakkam road connects the Chennai ORR plus areas in the western Chennai to the airport.

From early Wednesday, the traffic between Thiruneermalai and Thirumudivakkam was affected due to the causeway across Adyar that gave away because of heavy rains. To facilitate the construction of a 2-lane bridge at a cost of Rs 2.35 crores, a temporary causeway was laid is known.

A resident belonging to Thiruneermalai expressed his views. He spoke about how an old bridge was demolished and the work to build a new bridge started sometime back. This work has been going very slowly. He shed light on how during the 2015 floods water flowed over the bridge and reached the main road. He concluded that there are fears regarding the overflowing that might happen this year also.

The information is residents and workers belonging to Thirumudivakkam industrial estate are now forced to take a long route through Kundrathur, Pammal, Pallavaram, and Anakaputhur. It must be taken into account that the other bridge at Anakaputhur has been completed and due to this the drive is a little short now. This was as per an auto driver. It must be noted that the industrial area of Thirumudivakkam has got around 350 MSME companies with varied production units.

The construction of 3 more deck slabs remains now and the work would be over in the month of February. This was according to some sources belonging to the Department of Highways.

An official later revealed that the breach on the causeway has been widened and the water would flow within the banks. He mentioned how when the water level comes down then pipelines would be laid and water would be allowed to run through them. He concluded that road would be laid on the top and vehicles would be able to use it.
