Sujith tragedy echo: call for residents to register all borewells before 10th November!

A press release from the CMWSSB (Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board) mentions:
‘Residents having bore-wells and open wells at home should register with the nearest Metrowater Depot on or before 10th November.
As per the provisions of Section 4 of the Chennai Metropolitan Area Groundwater (Regulations) Act of 1987, residents have to register their bore-wells with Metrowater.
In case anyone fails to register within the prescribed time, penal action will be taken as per the provisions of the Act,
Residents have also been urged to convert unused bore-wells into either rainwater harvesting recharge wells or fill up such pits.
