In TN, the government doctors have been involved in a strike for the last one week is well known.
The latest news is on Friday this strike was called off by the representatives of FOGDA or Federation of Government Doctor’s Association. It must be taken into account that the government revoked all disciplinary action including break-in service initiated against the doctors participating in the protests.
It was later informed by the representatives of FOGDA (they were involved in spearheading the doctors strike) that the decision to call off strike came after the TN chief minister Mr. E. Palaniswamy assured them. Point is a doctor belonging to FOGDA revealed that they have resumed their work.
On Friday, representatives of FOGDA met Beela Rajesh, Health secretary and on Monday they would meet state health minister Dr. C. Vijayabaskar. According to the state health minister, the government would consider the fair demands of the government doctors.
It is worthy to mention that the government doctors in TN were involved in a strike demanding implementation of 4- point charter of demands. This included time bound promotion and hike in their salaries etc. The public health system in TN was severely affected by the strike of these government doctors at this time of monsoon related illness. Point to be noted is these striking doctors were condemned by the directors of medical education or DME Dr. Narayana Babu and by the director of public health or DPH, Dr. Kolandaiswamy.
The government came hard on the on the doctors who were involved in the protests by appealing and then by warning to call off their strike is known. It must be noted that the government had taken stringent action against those doctors who refused to concede and issued transfer orders to 50 protesting doctors.
The TN chief minister in a media interaction revealed how the government spends Rs 1.24 crores from the tax payer’s money to create a single doctor. He added that the doctors must help the people as the government spends considerable amount on their medical education. He highlighted that the public health was impacted by the doctor’s strike.
